Early Years of Margaret Weis

Margaret Weis is originally from Independence, Missouri - a town where she was born, raised, and educated in. She completed a degree in creative writing in 1970 and started working as a proof reader at a local publishing house. Over the next 13 years she progressed from a proof reader to editorial director.

Her writing career began during the late 1970s when her first book was published in 1981. During the next few years, at the height of her career at a publishing house, she was offered a position of a book editor at TSR, Inc.

Dragonalnce - Her Big Break

TSR, Inc, the producers of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS saw great potential and she quickly moved up the ranks on her new position. She became part of a design team for the DRAGONLANCE role-playing game. This position became a vital point of her career, making Dragonlance the central setting for many of her books. During her work at TSR, Inc she became involved in many aspects of the game development process and started writing Dragonlance books to compliment the games being developed at TSR, Inc. Writing Career

Margaret Weis wrote approximately 80 books during her exciting career. She continues to write books focusing on the Dragonlance world that she has created. She often collaborates on projects with fellow authors such as Tracy Hickman, Don Perrin, Dezra Despain, and others. She had great success with the fans of fantasy novels and role playing games - selling over twenty million copies of works in the Dragonlance series alone.

Current Career and Activities

Weis enjoys a quiet life in Wisconsin, sorrounded by her four dogs. She spends her time writing books and managing Sovereign Press publishing company which she owns.
